The aim of this project is a collaborative work with Professor Andreas Möller at The University of Kansas, USA. Professor Möller is director of the KU LA-ICP-MS Geochronology laboratory, which is equipped with a Thermo Scientific Element2 ICP-MS coupled with a 193nm ArF Excimer laser ablation system. He is an expert in geochronology, especially on dating metamorphic events and reconstructing P-T-t paths through in-situ U-Pb methodologies. The expertise of Professor Möller and the facilities of KU LA-ICP-MS laboratory will contribute in a major way to the Phd project of the applicant. The main goal of this cooperation is dating of Archean to Proterozoic crust-forming and metamorphic events in the basement rocks of the Southern Brasília Orogen and the subsequent reworking of these rocks during the Neoproterozoic orogeny by zircon and titanite U-Pb LA-ICP-MS. The U-Pb data will be combined with whole-rock Nd, Sr and geochemical data to construct a petrogenetic model for the basement rocks of the Southern Brasília Orogen. (AU)
