Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of different artificial aging on the fluorescence of resin composites. Material and Methods: Forty-five cylindrical specimens (6mm in diameter and 1mm thick) will be made of each composite resin: microparticulate (Durafill), microhybrid (Empress Direct) and nanoparticle (Filtek Z350). A baseline measurement of fluorescence by direct method using the fluorescence spectrophotometer RF-5301 PC (Shimadzu Corp., Kyoto, Japan) will be performed. After, resin specimens will be distributed into 3 subgroups according to artificial aging protocol to be submitted: Subgroup T - thermocycling (5o and 55oC): 15000 cycles will be performed with fluorescence readings after 5000, 10000 and 15000 cycles; subgroup M - aging by mechanical brushing: 30000 cycles will be performed, with fluorescence readings taken after 10000, 20000 and 30000 cycles; subgroup Q - chemical aging by ethanol: the samples will be immersed in ethanol for 15 days, with readings taken after 5 10 and 15 days of immersion; subgroup L - light aging: resin specimens will be subjected to UV radiation for 216h with fluorescence readings after 72, 144, 216h. Data will be collected and statistically analyzed.
