Abstract

Canine mammary tumors are very common in this species using the female dog as an experimental model for women. One of the main prognostic factors of this disease is the presence or absence of metastasis. Recent studies on carcinogenesis propose detecting tumorigenic in breast tumors. It is believed that these cells are involved in the mechanism of metastasis. This study will use 20 canine malignant mammary tumors and their metastases. After the selection of cases will be informed macroscopic appearance of the tumor, histological and clinical data. Immunohistochemical reactions for detection of CD44, CD24, ALDH -1, and OCT-4 in canine mammary tumors and their metastases are performed. Statistical analysis will be performed after the percentage count of immunostained cells is compared by Student's t-test between groups. The results of clinical, macroscopic, and microscopic data will be analyzed by multivariate analysis. It is hoped that these comparisons may help in the prognosis of patients with metastatic mammary tumors contributing to the advancement of research in veterinary and comparative oncology. (AU)
