Abstract

The smokers faces obstacles during the process of smoking cessation, such as abstinence syndrome. Knowing the mechanisms of addiction and behavioral strategies to circumvent the fissure, it is possible make the treatment more effective. Objectives: Analyze the behavior of the symptoms of tobacco abstinence syndrome over a period of four weeks of abstinence, observe if there is any relationship between these symptoms and the classification of the Fagerstrom test, evaluate changes in life habits during the period of abstinence and observe the influence of strategies used on the behavior of symptoms. Methods: Smokers participating in a smoking cessation program will be evaluated each week on the presence or absence of abstinence syndrome symptoms, changes in lifestyle during abstinence and influence of the strategies on the behavior of symptoms, by an abstinence control form. The concentration of carbon monoxide in exhaled air also be measured using a CO analyzer for evidence the abstinence of the patients during the days of the experiments. Statistical analysis: Data will be analyzed using the Graph Pad Prism Software. Data will be expressed as mean, median, standard deviation and confidence interval of 95%. The application of statistical tests will depend on the normality of the data presented. To analyze the pattern and intensity of abstinence syndrome symptoms will be used in the chi-square test and binary logistic regression.
