Abstract

This project aims to analyse and compare the two Brazilian (re)translations of Charles Baudelaire's Mon cSur mis à nu. Moreover, its goal is to prepare a new retranslation of this work, what takes this research to emphasize the theoretical question of retranslation on the more recent translation studies: reviewing authors such as Berman, Gambier, Meschonnic and Faleiros, the idea of retranslation has been more and more usual on translation studies. Whilst (re)translations of other Baudelaire's works are plentiful, Mon coeur mis à nu counts not only with just a few (re)translations (to be more precise, there were two editions of broad circulation: Aurélio Buarque de Holanda's, in 1981, and Tomaz Tadeu's, in 2009), and these translations are separated by a very large time period. Therefore, this bring us the question of what is the role of Mon cSur mis à nu referring to Baudelaire's presence on the Brazilian literary system. In this work, we seek to evaluate critically these two (re)translations, the construction of a dialogical dynamic and of an ethical space (Cardozo, 2007), with which it is possible to analyse the historicity of these translations. In addition, as consequence, we intend to write a new (re)translation, understood as a critical effort that allows to think the questions related to Baudelaire's poetic proccess (the sham between lyrical self and poetic subject; the polymorphism of genders; the "drafts poetics" (Didier, 1973) etc.), implementing new interpretative layers and ways of reading, analysing and translating this not-so-read, analysed and (re)translated Baudelaire in Brazil.
