Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease whose main characteristic degeneration of articular cartilage, is progressive and slow . It mainly affects older people , the percentage of OA knee for people over 60 is 37 % of the population of the United States . This disease causes limitations and disability for individuals , and generate costs for the health system . The main signs and symptoms are persistent knee pain , swelling in the morning, reduction of function, restriction of movement , changing the shape of the bone and crepitus . The crepitus can occur with or without pain and is common in clinical assessments of individuals with knee OA . Although crepitus and reduced function are common findings in people with osteoarthritis of the knee, no study has investigated the association between them. Our hypothesis is that crepitus and function are associated among people who have knee osteoarthritis or who have a high risk of developing the disease . Therefore our aim is to analyze whether there are differences in functional measures (assessed by WOMAC, SF12 and KOOS questionnaires) between people who have and who do not have the crepitus knee . Will use data from an online database of multicenter study aimed to identify and validate biomarkers for AO knee that obtained data from 1479 individuals to conduct this study. (AU)
