Abstract

Studies related to the induction of flowering in sugarcane are scarce regarding the commercial importance and breeding. This event is physiologically complex and difficult to understand. Due to the complexity of flowering induction in sugarcane, genetic studies that provide information at the time of occurrence of this event would be important in their understanding for future research. Therefore, the aim of this work is to identify differently expressed genes associated with the induction of flowering in sugarcane using the cDNA - AFLP technique. For this, two types of inducing flowering contrasting genotypes, IACSP95-5094 and IACSP-7569 (genotypes easy induction) and IACSP96-2101 and IACSP96-3060 (genotypes difficult induction), will be placed in photoperiodic treatments induction and not induce flowering in photoperiod chamber. Upon exposure this genotypes to treatments will be performed 3 trials (5, 10 and 20 days of induction) about +1 leaf and leaf sheath of the same and subjected to cDNA-AFLP technique for identify fragments expressed differently between genotypes within different photoperiodic treatments. Fragments after sequencing will be submitted to the sequence databases (NCBI, SUCEST-FUN) using the BLAST tool to identify likely candidate genes related to the flowering induction in sugarcane.
