Abstract

The United Nations (UN), willing to reach one of your main goals concerning to maintenance of security and peace in the world, uses as essential tool the establishment of peace operations, which are currently multidimensional. The members of the Missions, like the UN members, have immunities based on multilateral conventions and specifics agreements with the host country of the operation. Those immunities result in debates related to cases in which one member of the operation commits a crime. Using bibliographic and documental sources, this research will see the evolution of peace operations to analyze the documents that regulate and that give juridical basis to the immunities given to the "peacekeepers". Finally, information about the committed crimes will be collected and a analysis about the juridical treatment given to the involved personal will be done. It will also be seen the results of the processes of investigation and judgment that could help or refute the hypothesis that immunities can result in impunity. (AU)
