Abstract

In extreme temperature and/or density conditions the nuclear matter suffers a transition to a deconfined state, the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). An indication of the formation of the QGP is the suppression of heavy-quarkonia states. Each state is differentially suppressed in respect to the plasma temperature and the combined measurement of this states allow use them to characterize this medium. This project, developed through the direct PhD program of the Institute of Physics of University of São Paulo, aims to measure the suppression of heavy-quarkonia (as o J/psi and upsilon(1S,2S,3S)) in Pb-Pb collisions in the LHC energy range at the ALICE experiment, localized at Switzerland and which was built with a project focused in measuring lead ions collisions. This study can be done through the decay channels J/psi into eletron-positron and also Upsilon(1S,2S,3S)’ into eletron-positro using ALICE detector, in special the EMCal and the TPC. An internship at CERN is scheduled to 2016. It's is intended to measure the cross section of this states in order to get observables, such as the nuclear modification factor (R AA) and the elliptic flow (v2). (AU)
