Abstract

This project aims to investigate the book "A Nebulosa" written by the brazilian author Joaquim Manoel de Macedo and published in 1857. The author known by novels that portrayed the ascending middle-class of the urban brazilian society, has also shown many other subjects, incorporating diverse styles in his compositions. The book published in 1857 is related with the construction on european novels, specifically the style of George Gordon Byron.The main objective of this research is the attempt to stablish relations between the unrealized passions novel with pessimist tones of Macedo and the poetic literature of Lord Byron, comparing both authors and making a historical course of the public reception in Brasil. This analysis will be based by theoretical support related with Macedo and the influcences of the Byron in Brasil, using authors such as (Onédia Barbosa, 1974; Brito Broca, 1979; Ângela Costa, 2006; Pires de Almeida,1962; Mario Praz, 1996 e Tania Serra, 1994), the book in analysis and collected poems of George Gordon Byron.
