Abstract

The development of regions is necessary for the development of the population, however, contributes for extinction of several fish species, such as surubim-of-Paraíba, Steindachneridion parahybae, endemic fish of the Paraíba do Sul River Basin, present of endangered species Brazilian red list. The main of this work is to test different protective solutions for cooling of Steindachneridion parahybae semen in two main tests: 1) Evaluation of the toxicity of 48 protective solutions composed of different amounts of fructose , glucose , sucrose, milk powder, DMSO and methanol (moment of dilution) and; 2) Evaluation of cooling of semen diluted in 48 after protective solutions after 0, 12, 24, 36, 50, 74 and 112 hours of storage at 5°C. The computer sperm motility parameters and percentage of normal sperm and intact membrane (live) will be evaluated. The results will be submitted to analysis of variance at 5 % significance. Based on the results will be possible to identify which solution is more effective in surubim cooling semen, serving as a basis for future research on sperm cryopreservation.
