Abstract This research initiative aims to analyze reuse projects of industrial remnants from the postures of intervention in space and use chosen, in the face of the contemporary notion of industrial heritage in Brazil, territorial planning and current real state market. In principle three buildings were elected as object of study: Tendal da Lapa, used as a cultural space and delegacy of Lapa; the old factory of Alpargatas, adapted to host a university campus; and Casa das Caldeiras, the house of boilers of all Industries Francisco Matarazzo, adapted for a space for events. We intend to examine the question of the use of architectural heritage from a reflection that relates this theme with the preservation of industrial heritage today focusing on the city of Sao Paulo, since this type of historical building, due to a combination of characteristics, tends to be considered only in the economic field, directing a certain posture in relation to the functionality that usually does not cover the real scope of conservation.
