Abstract

Production and distribution are generally two key decisions in supply chains. To achieve an effective operational performance along the supply chain, it is important that these two functions are integrated, especially on supply chain without high inventory levels into the production-distribution system, so that planning is done in a more coordinated manner. This project involves the study and formulation of mathematical optimization models integrating production and distribution decisions at tactical and operational levels of the supply chain. In particular, the project focus is on models that consider lot-sizing and scheduling decisions, as well as split delivery vehicle routing decisions. One motivation for this work is the case of some furniture companies, where products are custom manufactured and shipped to the costumers after they are fabricated, requiring the integration of production and distribution decisions in order to achieve efficiency. In addition to mixed integer linear models, will also be studied and developed specific solution methods to solve the problem, since these integrated models are generally difficult to handle in real situations (they are NP-hard).
