Abstract

This research project is linked to the thematic project "Mapping and analysis of the territory of the sugarcane Hydroagricultural Business, in the Pontal of Paranapanema region/SP-Brazil: labor relations, conflicts and forms of land and water use, and environmental health" (FAPESP 12/23959-9). As part of the Laboratory of Biogeography and Health Geography, discusses the vector borne diseases related to the of sugarcane monoculture expansion, especially the American Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (ACL) and American Visceral Leishmaniasis (AVL). Leishmaniasis are zoonoses with wide geographical distribution, transmitted by the bite of sandflies and distributed across all continents, except Australia. In the America, affects 21 countries. It is estimated that, worldwide, about 350 million people live in areas at risk of contracting the disease, with 12 million of existing cases, with an increase of approximately 1.5 million per year. The occurrence of these zoonoses is increasing in Brazil, which has caused serious public health problems. Therefore, this work has to correlate the distribution of sand flies with the socio environmental aspects of the Legal Reserves and Conservation Units, and its surroundings, in the Pontal do Paranapanema region, São Paulo state/Brazil. To this work will be performed captures of sandflies in those areas, using light traps of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and evaluate the infectivity with tests by multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique. To correlate the data about sandflies with the socio environmental aspects will be analyzed the abiotic conditions, biological factors and capacity to dispersion of sand flies. (AU)
