Abstract

The Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS) was described by Gardner in the 80s and describes how a child can become emotionally distant from one of their parents (alienated) in the context of custody dispute or divorce under the influence of the other parent (alienating). This behavior of the alienating parent causes a set of symptoms in children, such as: a campaign against the alienated parent, support to alienating parent, scenarios "ordered", and others. Gardner's intention was WHICH PAS was recognized in the scientific community and was present in psychiatric manuals. However this didn't happen and the concept of PAS has been losing ground for lack of scientific validity and reliability. Because it is little researched topic, this project aims, through two studies, check how psychologists understand the concept of PA and how they use it in their professional practice (Study 1) and by the results obtained from the study 1 propose and evaluate an online training to improve the scientific knowledge of PA and improve the professional practice of psychologists to act in such cases.
