Local and systemic evaluation of the presence of nitric oxide synthase in male wistar with endodontic infections

Abstract

This study will evaluate the action of nitric oxide (NO) in relation to the local inflammatory response in periapical lesions, and its consequent systemic action in rats with one or multiple endodontic infections by quantifying its producing enzyme, nitric oxide synthase (NOS). 30 male Wistar rats will be divided into three groups of 10 animals each: G0 - healthy rats; G1 - rats with endodontic infection alone; G2 rats with multiple endodontic infections. After 30 days, blood will be collected via cardiac puncture for quantitation of realization of NOS. After blood collection, the animals will be killed by anesthetic overdose, and the maxillas will be processed for light microscopy in HE and in immunohistochemical staining of NOS. The results and the correlation between local and systemic findings will be analyzed by specific statistical tests for each case (p < 0.05).
