Abstract

Thymol is a monoterpene action with ticks previously proven by several authors for different tick species and at different stages of life. However, little is known about the physical and physiological changes caused by this substance when used in controlling these arthropods. Thus, the aim of this project is to analyze what are the physical and physiological changes that occur in the salivary glands, singânglio, Gené body and ovaries of female Rhipcephalus sanguineus with six days of feeding, when treated with thymol at different concentrations. To do so, tick fasting will be fed on artificial infestations in rabbits as proposed by Bechara et al. (1995). After six days of feeding they will be removed from hosts and submitted to immersion test by Drummond et al. (1973) thymol in solutions at different concentrations, in Matos et al. (2013 ). Soon after the ticks will be kept for five days in a climatic chamber and after this period they will be anesthetized by heat shock and dissected for removal of various organs which, in sequence, will be subjected to histological techniques and embedded in resin and stained with hematoxylin and eosin ( HE ) and will be subjected to histochemical techniques to detect calcium and polysaccharides. Moreover, specifically ovaries and salivary glands are undergoing technique for detection of acid phosphatase activity, and body Gené will also be studied at the level of scanning electron microscopy, since the morphological information about this organ are scarce in the literature available.
