Abstract

The Solanaceae family includes important crops for the world economy as tomato, potato, chili and sweet-pepper. In Brazil, these crops can be found in all regions of the Federation, and Southeast and Midwest States are the largest producers. Recently the Tomato chlorosis virus - ToCV (Genus Crinivirus) was identified infecting pepper, tomato and potato in producing areas in Brazil. There are few information available about the damage that this virus causes in sweet-pepper plants in quantitatively and qualitatively way. Therefore, this study aims to verify the productivity of sweet-pepper plants infected by ToCV in single infection and in the presence of ToSRV (Tomato severe rugose virus), an economically important begomovirus. In addition, Capsicum germplasm will also be evaluated for resistance to ToCV. Knowledge about the actual damage caused by ToCV in Capsicum and search for sources of resistance to this virus, will be essential for the establishment of economic strategies to the disease control.
