Abstract

The aim this study is to verify influence of body image in quality of life on pharmacy-biochemistry students and its relation with social variables and the nutritional status. All students enrolled in the pharmacy-biochemistry, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Araraquara (UNESP) in the year 2014/2015 will be invited to participate (n=430). Information as age, gender, course's year and period, expectation and performance in course, thoughts about desisting from the course, drug intake due academic pressure and to body weight control, employment opportunities outside the university, socioeconomic level and schooling of household head will be collected. The weight (Kg) and height (m) reported by participants will be used for calculating the Body Mass Index (in kg/m2) and estimate the nutritional status. The influence of body image in quality of life on students will be estimated using the Body Image Quality of Life Inventory (BIQLI). Psychometric characteristics of BIQLI will be estimated by psychometric sensitivity, construct validity and internal consistency. The goodness-of-fit indices c2/gl, GFI, NFI and RMSEA will be used in the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and internal consistency will be estimated by Cronbach's coefficient alpha (a). The algorithm obtained in CFA will be used to calculate the final mean score of the influence of body image in quality of life and then, it will be compared according to variables of interest by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The level of significance to be adopted will be 5%. (AU)
