Abstract

At the very beggining of his text, in the Dedication written to Giacomo Angaranno Earl and in the Preamble to the Readers, Andrea Palladio notes his motivations to this undertaking and allude to the principal reference sources to the writing of his treatise. He makes noteworthy the book is a conclusion of a long journey of years dedicated to the study, to the reading of the texts of that ones who precedes him and to the long trips and visits to the cities and its buildings. He highlights still his search for rigour in the observation of the ruins, achieved by the measurement and the draw of the fragments of the visited buildings. Palladio imediateally reveals to the reader the site he passed through,opening his treatise with the construction of his own image, which is going to be explored in the four books which composes it. The preamble to the reader moreover brings other important precisions, the privet house is the fundament of the city, in the most absolut albertian tradition, and founder reference of his architecture, starting point to draw the ambitious plan of his writing opus, relating each of the themes and the sequence that intends to follow. But the pages of his treatise are even full of draws and is absolutely rigorous in its diagram, in the treat with graphic resources, in similarity to the written text in which there is no space for excess, Palladio prefers the blank sheet to writing the inconvenient. Drawing and text keep a profound relationship, put theirselves in permanent communication. In this research, we are going to build a general reflection about the treatise, dedicating special attention to one of its substantive and essential themes, the one of architecture drawing. Subject which goes through all the books, always with great beauty and dynamic, assuming the author himself the organization and amplifying hugely its reading, Palladio make of architecture drawing a background text for the whole treatise, he makes a book about the drawing. Bringing back the prerogative of a drawing which amplifies the limits of the subject means to bring to the discussion a fundamental and living aspect of architecture in all times.
