Abstract

Protease activated receptors type 2 (PAR-2) have been associated with with periodontal inflammation. Periodontal disease is chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the loss of the connective tissue attachment surrounding the teeth. The main etiologic agent of periodontal disease is the bacterial biofilm butthe severity of periodontal destruction can be aggravated by an important risk factor: diabetes mellitus. The type 2 diabetes, which occurs in 85% to 90% of patients with diabetes, has been associated with a high prevalence, severity and progression of periodontal disease. Thus, this study will investigate, with Real-Time PCR, if diabetes mellitus type 2 alters gene expression of PAR-2 present in the gingival fluid cells of patients with chronic periodontitis. For this purpose, 60 patients will be divided into 2 groups: Group Diabetes (diabetics without chronic periodontitis) and DPC Group (diabetics with periodontitis chronic). The evaluation of clinical periodontal parameters (Plaque Index, Gingival Index, Probing Depth, Clinical Attachment Level and Bleeding on Probing) and gingival fluid collection will be performed in all patients.
