World exploration process in the baby, within the use of old/new technologies

Abstract

The baby's experiences in his first year are highly considered in importance for his further development. Concerning the individual entry in symbolism, the baby's active experiences during the sensorimotor stage were interpreted as fundamental. Piaget gives emphasis to the sensorial contact with the world, while Wallon discusses about the importance of the social relationships established by the baby since the beginning of his life. Both theories, however, were formulated in the last century, and since then the western society have passed for lots of technological changes. This changes give us reasons to raise new questions. With the advent of new technologies, such as the internet, mankind enters in contact with the reality in new and unthinkable ways. Being given these changes, is questioned in this study how the baby's world exploration develops within the use of new technologies. A descriptive study of multiple cases having two babies as subjects will be done. Video recordings in naturalistic environments will be done; two types of technology will be offered to the baby (one more recent, one more traditional). It is the world exploration as it occurs within these technologies which will be videotaped. Then, a data selection, and microgenetics transcription and analysis of this selected data will be done, searching always comprehend the processes involved in the development, not their products. This study is justified because it gives continuity to the researches realized by the CINDEDI. Beyond that, understanding the way by which the human beings apprehend the world in our present contexts of implementation of sophisticated technologies in several areas is extremely important to psychology, as well.
