Abstract

The Preschool Language Assessment Instrument - Second Edition (PLAI - 2) is an American test was translated and adapted to Brazilian Portuguese, and is in the final stages of validation. This procedure investigates the spoken language skills of children aged three to five years and 11 months. For this, comprises 70 stimuli divided into four levels of communication skills (choice, selective analysis, analysis and perceptual reasoning) equally divided into receptive and expressive skills, which predict two forms of analysis: formal and informal. Formal analysis provides a partial and overall estimate based on the standard score, and informal analysis provides information about the interfering pragmatic skills during the evaluation process: appropriateness of responses and interfering behaviors. Therefore, the aim of this study is to verify if adapted for the Brazilian Portuguese version of the PLAI - 2 identifies and discriminates against children with language impairment, those with typical development and also separates children with language disorders other change communication (eg speech, swallowing, and orofacial motor). To meet this objective the methodology of single-blind study will be proposed. The research will be developed in three stages: 1) the researcher will apply and analyze the performance of a minimum group of 75 children in PLAI - 2, with access only to the name and age of the child; 2) the researcher will receive the related complaint, medical history and diagnostic speech, to be divided into subgroups according to data after diagnosis, and 3) the data are compared and analyzed through descriptive analysis and parametric and nonparametric tests.
