Abstract

Phonological disorder is a heterogeneous very common speech and language disorder in children. The statement made by theoretical models studying speech development is that there is an interplay among motor, cognitive linguistic and auditory processing led to the proposition of the present research which aim to apply additional cognitive-linguistic (speech inconsistency and phonological awareness) and motor speech tests (articulatory rate, stimulability, diadochokinesia, electroglottography and acoustic analysis) describing them in children with and without phonological disorder. Furthermore, ultrasonography research will be applied to Brazilian Portuguese-speaking adults in order to study alveolar and palatalized sound production. Participants will be 100 subjects divided into three groups: 40 children (male and female) with phonological disorder (Research Group-RG) and 30 typical developing children (Children Control Group-CCG) all aged between 5:1 and 8:11 years old and 30 adult subjects (Adult control Group-ACG) aged between 18 and 30 years with no complaints of communication disorders. Measures selected to be analyzed will be: PCC, PCC-R, speech inconsistency, phonological processes analysis, stimulability for the absent sounds from the phonetic inventory, DDK, articulation rate (measured in phones per second), EGG, acoustic analysis, errors consistency and ultrasound analysis from tongue motion.
