Abstract

The bees Apis mellifera expressive stand out in the economic and ecological context by bee products provided as propolis, royal jelly, honey, beeswax and venom, and by the extreme importance of the pollination process is for the equilibrium of ecosystems. Current studies indicate that some synthetic substances used to control pests in agriculture, may be involved in intoxication cases of insects, such as bees. It is emphasized thus, the importance of detailed toxicological studies to assess the possible deleterious effects that phytosanitary products can have on bees, suggesting then strategies for the protection and conservation of pollinators. Considering the above, the present study aims to examine the possible alterations in the spatial distribution of proteins in the brain of foraging bees of Apis mellifera exposed to sublethal dose of imidacloprid, which is an insecticide that presents neurotoxic action.
