Abstract

The research to be made has as a goal develop a comparative study between the Brazilian film production company Belair and its argentine counterpart, CAM (which means modern argentine Cinema) by analyzing their film productions. We will discuss and analyse five films produced by Belair in 1970 : "Cuidado madame", "Família do barulho", "Barão Olavo, o horrível" directed by Julio Bressane and "Sem essa Aranha" and "Copacabana mon amour" by Rogerio Sganzerla alongside with four movies made by CAM in 1971: "Alianza para el progreso", "La civilizacion está hacienda masa y no deja oír" directed by Julio César Ludueña; "La familia unida esperando la llegada de Hallewyn" by Miguel Bejo and "Puntos suspensivos" by Edgardo Cozarinsky. The main aspects of this analysis are focus on the formal elements and aesthetic procedures known as part of modern cinema. The starting point is the historical context of Latin American Cinema in the turn of 1960's to 1970's and the changes that took place from 1968 on, comprehended as a wide and complex historical process. In this moment, the perception of the links between cinema and politics and the role of cinema and film director in their clashes with the world changes and the same happened with clichés like "national identity" and "national popular" of the early 60's. In this turbulent environment for Latin America reflected in new movements like Cinema Novo and Argentine militant cinema and the differences between them was when we saw Belair and Cam in action.
