Abstract

The research proposal begins from the interest of this researcher (member of the Center for the Study of Languages in Architecture and City - N.ELAC - IAU.USP) to thicken the amalgam created by the International Cooperation Agreement USP / UP / 2012-2015 between the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism, University of São Paulo (IAU.USP) and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), whose project is entitled "architecture, design and representation: design methodologies in teaching design" establishing connections of knowledge and experimentation in the line who studies the languages of architecture and the city. This research also is a continuation of scientific research developed by this researcher between 2013 and 2014 (Dean of Research at USP). "Anxious Lines: sketches and design actions in the work of architect Eduardo Souto de Moura" aimed to investigate the importance of drawing freehand projective process before the new technological devices. To contribute to this question, were choosen as the object of study the sketches of Eduardo Souto de Moura. Through graphic comments on sketches, it was possible to verify that the first ideas of the final work were already present in the initial sketches. Therefore, we intend to now, by means of the comparative historical method, analyze the processes of design of architects Eduardo Souto de Moura (School of Porto) and Eduardo de Almeida (Paulista School), under the hypothesis of maintaining the freehand drawing as a paramount tool in the design process, which has already been confirmed in the case of Eduardo Souto de Moura. The current research proposes a collect of materials with the architect himself, through interviews, sketches and other graphic materials, observation drawings and photographs selected from criteria that will be established during the research works. Thus, draws up an investigative link between the sketches and the works of both architects, the first more used to the issues related to the implantation and the site while the second, to the function and construction technique.
