Abstract

Without being tied to an exclusive strategy, the building can represent more than mere shelter. Architecture may be able to give meaning to the environment, can make a space turn into a place, reveal what is latent - the earth is a welcoming agent as well as arranged by Heidegger. Using phenomenology as a reading key, the central objective of the present research is to investigate the relationships between constructed space, man and the environment, discussing the appropriation of the site, the construction of the landscape and the place in the buildings of the architects Angelo Bucci (Paulista School) and Eduardo Souto de Moura (Porto School). The research hypothesis is that both architects have phenomenological approaches to their projective processes. Through the historical-comparative method and on-site visits, we intend to investigate to what extent the phenomenology of the place appears in the projective processes and in the buildings of the architects and what their underlying logic with respect to some aspects, such as context and local landscape; vocation of place; borders (physical and sensory); character and atmosphere of spaces, among others. Structurally, the project is drawn from two distinct moments: [1] the construction of the state of the art, which will be shaped by review and bibliographical analysis of materials and, later, will be studied the [2] Bucci and Moura project approaches in the light of the phenomenology of the place. Qualitative analyzes will be carried out on the selected works for case studies, which will be understood according to two levels of environmental perception: first, on the scale of the immediate environment, allowing the recognition of general implantation structures and dialogues with the adjacencies; and second, on the scale of the user and the spatial perceptions in the buildings, investigating how spaces draw interior and exterior; how the work establishes its boundaries and determines the character and atmosphere of constructed spaces; as the construction site intensifies, condenses and accurately indicates the structure of nature and how Man perceives it - the body is the entity of perception, the main human space reference. Thus, in the midst of the spectacle that has dominated the architectural scene of the last decades, this project proposes the study of two architects who go against an architecture surrendered to business, built in financialized cities based on a space-time compression and which, because it is associated with an ideal of reproduction of capital, ends up by disregarding its context.
