Abstract

The ecological study of a species provides important information about the relationship of environmental factors with abundance and spatial and temporal distribution of individuals. This study will investigate the abundance and spatiotemporal distribution of the rock shrimp Sicyonia dorsalis in the region of Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, during the period July 2010 to June 2011 and from July 2013 to June 2014. The shrimp were collected in a shrimp fishing boat equipped with nets of type "double-rig" at four points (P1, P2, P3, and P4) distributed to 15 meters deep. The temperature and salinity of the bottom water and sediment were measured each month at the sampling points. According to the data, statistical tests will be used to verify possible significant differences in abundance between years, seasons, and months (temporal analysis) and sampling points (spatial analysis). The ecological understanding of Sicyonia dorsalis is important, especially in a region that has very particular oceanographic features offered by the phenomenon of upwelling and differs from other areas of geographic distributions of species.
