Micronucleus test, clinical and laboratory effects of using indoxacarb in cats

Abstract

Indoxacarb is an insecticide of the group of oxidiazinas indicated for the treatment of flea infestation in cats. The objective of this study is to evaluate through clinical observation, blood count, serum biochemistry (liver and renal function) and by the micronucleus clinical, hematologic, renal, hepatic alterations and genotoxicity of Indoxacarb product (Actvyl®) in different test doses in feline species. Twenty cats distributed in four groups with five animals each and treated will be used: negative control group (GCN) - sodium chloride 0.9% topic; positive control group (GCP) -ciclofosfamida intravenous with a single dose of 50 mg/kg; indoxacarb group (GI) -indoxacarbe topically at the recommended dose by the manufacturer; indoxacarb high dose group (GIAD) -indoxacarbe ten times higher than the dose recommended by the manufacturer. Screening of the animals will be held and conducted clinical examination, blood count, serum biochemistry (urea, creatinine, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, gamma glutamyltransferase) and micronucleus test in peripheral blood. Twenty-four hours after treatment clinical examination and micronucleus test after 15 days blood count and serum biochemistry and will be held. The results will be submitted to analysis of variance and Student t test. Significance level of 5% is assumed.
