Abstract

An ideal prosthesis should reproduce the structures lost in detail and be inconspicuous in public. However the defect nature, the skills of the prosthetist and the materials of choice merely the beauty of the prosthesis and, therefore, its use, since its primary function is recovery of aesthetics. Thus, color, shape and texture are primary characteristics that will determine the success or failure of maxillofacial prosthesis, as well as its durability. The present study aims to analyze the influence of three methods of incorporating pigments in color stability, solubility and absorption, dimensional stability and detail reproduction of silicones A2-2186 and Silastic MDX4-4210 as well as the biocompatibility of a new pigment staining of maxillofacial prostheses. This study presents the null hypothesis that the incorporation of pigments will not affect the silicone properties. To prepare the samples, we selected two facial silicones, three types of pigments, two of them for specific characterization of maxillofacial prostheses in bronze and black, and a new color pigment in medium pink. When all the work will be 20 groups distributed according to the type of silicone pigment added and the incorporation method used. The samples shall undergo the chromatic stability, solubility and absorption, reproduction of detail and dimensional stability tests and then will be submitted to 1008 hours of accelerated aging, then new readings will be performed. Although samples are prepared to verify biocompatibility of the pigments through the in vitro cytotoxicity assay with cultured cells. The data will be submitted to the adherence to the normal curve test, appropriate statistical test was used to compare the mean values of each test performed. The results will be evaluated for biocompatibility according to ISO standard 10993-5, which describes the the analysis methods for in vitro cytotoxicity. (AU)
