Abstract

This research reflects on the social interactions that take place in specific public parties in urban settings, focusing in the systems of difference that articulate certain social markers of difference - specially gender and sexuality. These parties bring people together to dance, listen to music and flirt, occupying open spaces such as squares or streets in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo and the German capital Berlin. These parties have in common the fact of being loci for expression of varied identities and practices around sexuality. Style is a key element that permeates the performances, stitching the erotic possibilities of interaction in these events as well as articulates itself to political discourses and certain expressions of gender.
