Self-perception of healthy adults on the thickening fluid

Abstract

Fluid intake is constantly drains the power of the healthy individual and oral modulation formed since the beginning of intake integrates the individual's perception and probably its acceptance. In swallowing disorders such as oropharyngeal dysphagia, causing displacement of inappropriate food for oropharyngeal transit and may cause laryngeal or laryngotracheal penetration and aspiration of food, the use of thickeners to liquids is often used as a therapeutic tool to minimize the risk of penetration and or laryngotracheal aspiration. However, modifying the thickness and viscosity of liquids with the use of thickeners has not always rapid acceptance. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the perception of healthy adult for thickening liquids. Participate in this study 50 healthy adult individuals, regardless of gender and age range 18-55 years. To evaluate the perception of these individuals will be offered liquids thickened by three different thickeners available in the Brazilian market. The offering of these thickened consistencies happen randomly, using the draw of bids as a selection method. After the selection and presentation of bids, the individual will be asked to perform a free cup swallowing requested and at the end the individual must select range of the analog perception is your perception regarding the swallowed liquid.
