Abstract

This project proposed the exploitation of Chini's clusters, a group of metal carbonyl multinuclear platinum complexes, in the synthesis of supported metal catalysts to be used in the hydrogen production chain of reactions. The Chini's clusters are produced in solution and they will be impregnated on different supports. The interaction with support is expected to be deeply dependent on the oxide nature (composition), impregnation conditions and post-treatments (atmosphere and temperature) and several studies will be performed aiming to obtain monodisperse supported platinum nanoparticles that are stable in catalytic reactions. These properties of the Chini's clusters will be also explored as a new strategy to synthesize hybrid nanostructures, for example dumbbells and nano-flowers, to study aspects of metal-oxide interface in catalysis.
