Abstract

The carrageen Kappa it is an important colloid (hydrocolloid) that storage in several species from red algae. The carrageen to generated approximately US$ 527 million in 2009. The carrageen is used in the industry of food, pharmacy, cosmetics and other segments. The world markets from carrageen have been increase around of 5% by year. The present project proposes the evaluation the proteins content in the macroalgae Kappaphicus alvarezzi. The red macroalgae it is rich in carbohydrates and contain fractions smalls composed of proteins, inorganics and aromatics. The hypothesis is based in the validation of a method of characterization from K. Alvarezii. The experimental approach will involve the extraction of biomass from K. alvarezii with polarity different solvents. The waste produced behind extractions will be hydrolyzed with acid. The different fractions obtained (soluble and insoluble) will be analyzed by protein content. Will be used two different methods for quantification proteins in the fractions on study. Inside this context, the present proposal intends to evaluation the chemical composition of proteins in different fractions ("in nature", waste soluble and insoluble) after physical and chemical pre-treatment from macroalgae in study. In parallel, intends to validate a method of characterization adequate of biomass from K. alvarezii that have been development by a student of master of ours group. The chemical composition in detail of biomass from K. alvarezii still do not was presented in the literature, being important development a method useful for chemical characterization of biomass "in nature" and of fractions obtained after physical, chemical and enzymatic pre-treatment.
