Abstract

This study seeks to understand how disease prevention and health promotion occur at the basic health unit Vera Poty, located at the Barragem neighborhood within the rural district of Parelheiros, in the southernmost part of the city of São Paulo. The project focus on the dialogues and "translations" between health concepts of the Guarani Mbyá and of western medicine, as well as the challenges arising in such situations. The methodology consists in bibliographic research and an ethnography of the indigenous health agents (AISs) and indigenous sanitary agents' (AISANs) work in the UBS Vera Poty, both central to the dialogues on health promotion and disease prevention between the Mbya and non-indians. We intend to understand specific questions related to desase prevention and health promotion in this UBS, thus contributing to the dialogues on health policies for indigenous peoples".
