Abstract

The soil has a large microbial diversity, and the main found species belong to the genus Bacillus, Clostridium, Arthrobacter, Pseudomonas, Rhizobium, Azotobacter e Nitrobacter. Among these bacterial species, there is Pseudomonas, an opportunistic pathogen responsible for infections of great clinical relevance, and other species belong to genus Burkholderia, Acinetobacter and Stenotrophomonas. These bacteria have became more resistant to antibiotics and is possible to find environmental bacteria that are resistant to antimicrobial therapy, in other words, to the antibiotics used in the medical clinic nowadays, such as the beta-lactams. One of the acquired resistance mechanisms to these antibiotics is the production of beta-lactamases. The present project aims to evaluate if the resistance profile to some beta-lactams antimicrobial in bacterial soil isolates is due to the production of beta-lactamases of extended spectrum.
