Effect of fruits and vegetables consumption on cardiovascular health in adolescents: a systematic review

Abstract

Objectives: (i) systematically review the literature on the influence of fruits and vegetables consumption on cardiovascular health in adolescents; (ii) estimate the individual and combined effect of fruits and vegetables consumption in each component of cardiovascular health; (iii) evaluate the methods used to analyze the consumption of fruits and vegetables, and investigate the most adapted for adolescents. The research will be conducted in eight databases (LILACS, CINAHL, EMBASE, MEDLINE/PubMed, PsycINFO, SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science), considering May, 2015 as the latest date. The search strategy will use the following sets of descriptors related to: 1) outcome, 2) age group, 3) study design. Bolean operators will be used for the combination of these groups. Inclusion criteria: 1) articles in English, Spanish and Portuguese; 2) original studies; 3) sample of adolescents (10-19 years old); 4) descriptors according to the proposed determinations. Potentially relevant articles will be selected through the following sequence: (i) selection of subtitles; (ii) selection of abstracts; (iii) read the entire article to determine whether meet the inclusion criterias. The check-list MOOSE and STROBE will be used to analyze the articles. (AU)
