Abstract

At the Mariano Procópio Museum in Juiz de Fora, there is an important artwork by the nineteenth century painter Willem Roelofs: the painting, known by the name with which it was exhibited and awarded at the World Fair of 1889, Après-midi en Hollande. Relevant artwork, that belongs to the Brazilian heritage, it lacks an specific study and international evidence. The present project intends to product a study about this particular artwork, which is important whithin Roelofs' production and considered as lost in the international studies. We will seek to historically substantiate this painting, through primary and secondary fonts. We will consider what concerns the specific and general contexts in which the atwork was produced, exhibited and sold. (AU)
