Sociodemographic, clinical, pharmacological, anthropometric and endocrinological profile of outpatients ranging from 10 to 20 years seen at the State University of Campinas Psychiatry Clinic

Abstract

Risperidone is frequently used to treat different psychopathological conditions during childhood and adolescence. Risperidone is the most commonly prescribed atypical antipsychotic in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Despite its effectiveness, risperidone has some adverse effects such as weight gain, metabolic syndrome and hormonal changes. These effects can be worsened by risperidone interaction with other drugs. This project will collect data including sociodemographic characteristics (sex categories and skin color), psychiatric and clinical diagnoses, risperidone dosage and duration of treatment, and concomitant drug use. Weight, height, BMI and waist circumference will also be collected. Moreover, we will perform a prolactin laboratorial measure test in order to obtain the blood prolactin levels. Around 100 outpatients between 10 and 10 years who are followed at the State University of Campinas Psychiatric Clinic and who take risperidone will be included in this study. Therefore, with this project we will improve the knowledge of our outpatients who take risperidone as well as gain a better understanding of risperidone adverse effects on children and adolescents.
