In this research project we propose a study of the term proofreading in scientific journals universe, in order to investigate how the processes of production and editorial treatment work in this academic writing and how it effects on the communication of scientific knowledge. Understanding proofreading as an activity of editorial mediation, we will take as our analysis object the journals of Brazilian Studies Institute - IEB/USP and the Postgraduate Program in Geography FFLCH-USP, Geousp: space and time, focusing on understand, on these periodicals, (one multidisciplinary and other restricted to a field of knowledge) how proofreading takes place as peer review and linguistic-discursive treatment, and in which way this relationship is established between these instances in editorial process that places into public circulation the knowledge produced in the University. We propose to look at the scientific journals as communication devices, observing how editorial genetic rites operate in this type of material and so, how they contribute to the constitution of current scenario of scientific communication. Therefore, anchored in descriptive and interpretative method of discourse analysis french line, we mobilize especially the concept of conditions of production and discursive institution, in view of to trace a brief overview of the cyclical elements of editorial discursive universe of scientific communication and investigate how occurs, in this context, the production of scientific journals, analyzing what proofreading activity represents in this area.
