Abstract

Fish under stress situation increased oxygen consumption suggesting energetic demand enhancement. These changes involve action of several enzymes which participate in different carbohydrate, protein, lipid and lactate metabolism pathways. The objetive of this internship is to learn techniques in order to asses metabolites (glycogen, glucose and lactate) levels as well as enzymatic activities in carbohydrate (Hexokinase, Fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase, Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase, Glutamate dehydrogenase), amino acid (Alanine aminotransferase and Aspartate aminotransferase), lactate (Lactate dehydrogenase-oxidase) and lipid (Glycerol 3-phosphate dehydrogenase) metabolism in gills, liver, kidney and brain, besides Na+-,K+- ATPase activity (a key enzyme related to osmoregulatory activity). For this purpose, the student will visit Prof. Dr. Juan Miguel Mancera laboratory (at University of Cádiz) and to learn and to employ these techniques using gilthead sea bream Spaurus auratus as model fish. Besides, the student will participate of a course titled "Biological process of interesting in Aquaculture: basic and practice aspects" which will realize in the same University and the Dr. Mancera will minister some part of it about his research area. Furthermore in the last week she will attend the I Iberian Congress in Aquaculture (Huelva, Spain). (AU)
