Abstract

Oedipus and Phoenissae tragedies of Seneca are the study object herein. This study reveals how the Latin text is organised poetically, aiming to define the main characteristics of stylistic idiom of Seneca in the corpus. Since such tragedies deals with the myth of Labdacids, we chose them. Thus, a more comprehensive approach is possible concerning how Seneca treated the myth of Oedipus. Brodsky (1986) used the concept of stylistic idiom in 'The Child of Civilization', which concerns the stylistic affinity required for a translation to be equivalent to the source text. Accordingly, expressive features as figures of speech and marks from phonic, lexical, morphosyntactic and metric levels are observed, which particularise how Seneca has handled the myth. (AU)
