Abstract

The project's scope aims to analyze the academic and professional trajectory of scientists gathered around the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC). The ABC was created in 1916 in Rio de Janeiro, and it is characterized as an instance of consecration of scientists from different fields of scientific knowledge, corresponding to the logic of recognition by peers on the scientific profiles cluster and in the holder members reproduction (lifetime members). The purpose is, also, the analytic exploration related to scientific and symbolic capital of approximately 700 scholars in duty, that represents areas of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Biomedical, Health, Agriculture, Engineering and Sociology. From the systematization of empirical data previously collected, the main objective is based in the scan of the Brazilian scientific field in its current structure, guided in the scrutiny of the academic and professional training indicators those that configure the national scientific elite. It seeks to analyze in which extent the scientists who belong to the ABC could serve as an analytical feature to the construction of the scientific field, showing the contemporary contentious around hierarchy and consecration of different scientific disciplines and onslaughts of science in relation to other social spaces. At the same time, it seeks to provide elements to the scientific elites construct, contributing in this perspective for power, reputation and distinction analyzes connected to the social science ethos in Brazil.
