Abstract

The gauge/gravity duality is a powerful tool to access non-perturbative phenomena in strongly coupled gauge theories. In this project, the candidate proposes to use the gauge/gravity duality in order to investigate several applications relevant to the physics of the quark-gluon plasma and condensed matter physics, including: (a) a computation of the thermal photon spectra near the deconfinement transition of QCD, (b) the entropy production in shockwave scattering in a gravity dual to the Heisenberg model, (c) an analysis of the energy loss and jet quenching parameter for heavy quarks at strong external magnetic fields, (d) the evaluation of several transport coefficients at non-zero baryonic chemical potential and (e) a study of the relationship between entanglement entropy and confinement.
