Abstract
The goal of this proposal is to group together specialists in quantum field theory and string theory to analyse several aspects of the gauge/gravity duality. This is one of most active areas of theoretical physics world wide and São Paulo has several actives researchers in the area. We must contrive ways to get together the researchers in this area in order to take advantage of their expertise and integrate them in a joint work to strengthen their competence. Formulated in 1997, the gauge/gravity duality proposes that quantum field theories and string theories are intimately related and are different descriptions of the same physical system. The duality represents an enormous advance in our understanding of quantum gravity, string theory and other areas of physics. It became an extremely useful tool for the study of strongly coupled quantum field theories in terms of weakly couple theories. We plan to use the duality to analyse certain aspects of condensed matter physics, relativistic plasma, early universe cosmology, scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory, supergravity theories and string theory, new examples of duality, the pure spinor formulation in the AdS/CFT correspondence and its several applications, the role of integrability for the duality, the connection with higher spin theories and string theory, the classical dynamics of strings and branes in anti-De Sitter spaces and various mathematical aspects which are relevant for the formulation and application of the duality.
