Abstract

Personal care products (PCPs) are present in our daily lives, in cosmetics, toiletries and some other applications, among them are the fragrances, insect repellents, ultraviolet (UV) filters, antimicrobials and preservatives. The PCPs are used daily and in high amounts, and thus, ultimately contribute to the environment after its use or disposal. Interest in PCPs study is justified because some of its constituents are reported as altering the endocrine system of various species and, although widely used in Brazil are poorly studied. Consumption of PCPs in Brazil is the third largest in the world. An aggravating to this, is that PCPs, unlike drugs, do not require a prescription, with no medical limitations or legal for your consumption. Still, they are used externally, its release to the environment is facilitated either by direct launch, mainly through aquatic recreational activities, is the indirect release through wastewater. Thus, this work aims to develop robust and efficient method for determining, in shallow waters, some of the most common components of PCPs. Therefore, it is proposed, development, optimization and validation of an analytical method based on solid phase extraction and chromatography coupled gas phase mass spectrometry (SPE and GC-MS / MS). The optimized and validated method should be applied to analysis of samples from the Ribeirão das Cruzes, spring water that supplies Araraquara-SP (AU)
