Abstract

Introduction: the lingual frenulum is a fold of mucous membrane that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth. When changed hinders lingual mobility and causes probable damages to the orofacial functions, being language and speech function the most influenced ones concerning the changing in the lingual frenulum. Objective: To identify and characterize speech changes related to alterations of the lingual frenulum in schoolchildren from 7; 0 years old to 10, 11 years old. Method: 60 school children will be assessed (7,0 years old to 10 ,11 years old) of both genders regularly enrolled at the Institute of Education José de Paiva Netto (IEJPN), divided into two groups: research group with 30 children with change in the lingual frenulum and control group with 30 children without changes the lingual frenulum. These children will be initially evaluated using the Assessment in Orofacial Motricity Protocol School of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo, in the following items: face measurements with caliper, description of the structures and muscles of the face, tongue (morphology, tone and mobility), lingual frenulum (normal, anterior, short, short and anterior) palatine tonsils (presence and size), teeth and dental occlusion. The speech will be evaluated on its phonetic aspects by asking questions to observe the occurrence or absence (systematic or unsystematic) of omission, substitution and / or acoustic distortion headphones. To complement the assessment of speech in its phonetic aspect, proof of appointment of the figures used in the Assessment Protocol for Orofacial Motricity, MBGR will be held. (AU)
