Abstract

It is from the nightlife that we will look at the restructuring of the city of São José do Rio Preto. In this context, we will study the economic logic of the companies that offer nightlife and the spatial practices of those who consuming the nightlife offered by them - individuals that we assume, are predominantly young. Our focus is especially for the offer that settled in the city over the past decade, since previous studies have shown the emergence of new areas and new practices, both articulated to the broader process of restructuring the city itself, in towards socio-spatial fragmentation. Therefore, we must also have a historical perspective on these offers and practices that marked a nightlife in the downtown because our hypothesize is that although the traditional downtown hold some importance, it has been recently supplanted by a new offer approaching of real estate products and new central areas arising in the south of the city. We are also interested in identifying if, within the spatial practices, we have enhanced the divisions that separate the different income strata. In this sense, the concept of territory will be taken as one that, at first, can handle doing a reading of the new frontiers that are established in the city, as part of its nightlife. (AU)
