Abstract

This project versa on the knowledge of biomass as an energy source, in a country where the energy deficit is high, and so is total convenience to use alternative energy sources. The objective of this study is to characterize the dried bark of Araucaria angustifolia and pyrolysed, also known as Brazilian pine, using techniques of thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for morphological analysis. By means of a thermal analysis, it may be remarked in A. angustifolia thermal effects in the presence of air and nitrogen to a dried sample and pyrolyzed at 500°C. It will also be measured the lower heating value (LHV).
